Footwear
- Synthetic or wool hiking socks
- Broken-in hiking boots with good tread
Base layer
- Underwear
- Long-sleeve lightweight synthetic top (September through mid-May)
- Long underwear or leggings, lightweight or mid-weight depending on preference (October through April)
Hiking layer
- Lightweight shorts or zip-off pants
- Cotton or other suitable shirts
Insulation layer
- Warm top, e.g. a lightweight sweater or pullover
- Extra fleece layer or lightweight synthetic fill jacket (September through April)
- Lightweight warm hat and gloves (October through April)
Weather layer
- Lightweight rain jacket
- Lightweight rain pants or water-resistant/breathable pants (October through April)
Hiking gear
- Water bottles or hydration bladder: 4 L total capacity, ideally a 100 oz Camelbak backed up with a one-liter Nalgene bottle
- Backpacks and trekking poles are provided by Canyonology Treks
Sun protection
- Wide-brimmed hat
- Bandana or similar item (like a Buff)
- Sunscreen (SPF 50 or better; make sure you are familiar with the brand/formulation)
- Sunglasses (with prescription lenses if needed — don’t rely on non-prescription sunglasses over contact lenses)
- Lip balm
Medical / personal
- Glasses if corrective lenses are needed, optionally backed up with contact lenses
- Medications
- Knee braces if needed
- Toiletries
Camp gear
- LED headlamp that runs on AAA batteries
- Spare set of headlamp batteries
- Tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads are provided by Canyonology Treks
